IV CIES – Call for Papers
The 4th CIES (International Congress of Sephardic Studies) will take place from August 18 to 21, 2027, in the cities of Belém and Manaus, in an in-person format. Registration for paper presentations will be open from November 1, 2026, to January 30, 2027.

1. Registration
a. This is an academic event open to registration by faculty members, researchers, and university students (Master’s and Doctoral levels).
b. The official languages of the Congress are: Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, Haketia, and Ladino.
c. Registration—to be sent to the email address cies.ceja@gmail.com with the subject line “IV CIES”—must include the following information:
i) Full name of the presenter;
ii) Institutional affiliation (or independent status, if applicable);
iii) Contact details (email and WhatsApp);
iv) Title of the proposed presentation;
v) Field of study relevant to the presentation;
vi) Abstract of the presentation (up to 250 words);
vii) Language of the presentation;
viii) Brief curriculum vitae (up to 200 words);
ix) Name of the coordinator (in the case of a panel).
d. Notification regarding the evaluation of proposals will be sent within fifteen days of the submission deadline.
e. Registration for those approved by the Organizing Committee will be finalized upon payment of the following fees:
R$ 150.00 (one hundred and fifty reais) for active researchers and professors;
R$ 75.00 (seventy-five reais) for students and independent or retired researchers/professors.
2. Presentation:
a. Unless a specific request is made, oral presentations will take place in sessions organized according to the field of study identified in the submitted proposal;
b. Oral presentations will be held in person and last between fifteen and twenty minutes;
c. If the presentation involves the use of PowerPoint or equivalent software, the presenter must notify the IV CIES organizing team well in advance so that the necessary technical resources can be arranged.
3. Daily schedule:
a. The organizing team will release the IV CIES program once presentations have been approved and registrations finalized;
b. The event sessions consist of panels or individual presentations; following the presentations, there will be a fifteen-minute Q&A session.
4. Certificate:
a. CIES undertakes to issue a Certificate of Participation upon request following the event, stating the participant’s name, the title of the presentation, and the date of the presentation.
b. The certificate will be sent in digital format to the email address provided on the registration form.
5. Publication:
a. CIES undertakes to publish the papers presented at the Congress, subject to the availability of funding. In such a case, a “Publication Authorization” form will be sent to the authors for timely signature.
b. The deadline for submitting the text will be announced after the Congress concludes.
